There's nothing better than having a good rummage through a record shop, yet Music & Goods Exchange, located on Bristol St, Birmingham, fulfills your musical needs ultimately!! Whether you're a Tape deck fan, CD collector or think there's nothing better than the sound of crackling records, Music & Goods Exchange allows you to divulge in them all! And for a good price! Ranging from £1 full-length, second-hand albums, to little more than £8 for most brand new records.
I had previously always been magnetized towards the vinyl, though this week, it was the CD's that caught my eye, and for good reason! I didn't expect them to have an experimental electro section, leaving me presently surprised, and even more so when I spotted albums:
Plone - For Beginner Piano and Autechre - Untilted at £5 each!
After searching long and hard for both albums, I was extremely proud to add them to my CD collection, and at such a great price! Plone, an avant/electronic act, were part of the leading synth scene of the 90's in Birmingham, spawning the likes of Modified Toy Orchestra and ZX Spectrum Orchestra, and imitating sounds of old cheerful platform games, taking me back to my childhood playing Sonic and Echo the Dolphin. I wish I had got to see Plone live before they split, R.I.P.
While Autechre are a Rochford-based, avant/extreme-IDM/electro/noise/techno/ambient two-piece, who can only be similarly compared to Aphex Twin. An amazing live act, as you feel the beat pulsate through you. Untilted is their album I've been longing for, it's so unique and reminds me of an alien war in space, especially Pro Radii. A beautifully-crafted piece that leaves you in a dancing frenzy of confusion!!
